About Etobicoke Humane Society

To protect, care for and advance the welfare of dogs and cats.

The Etobicoke Humane Society (EHS) is an independent, all-volunteer, federally registered charity serving the Greater Toronto Area since 1987.

EHS began 39 years ago as the Etobicoke Animal Welfare Society (EAWS) and subsequently became a registered charity, registered as the Etobicoke Humane Society. As a federally registered charity, EHS operates entirely from donations and our own fundraising efforts.

Our operations are not administered by nor funded by the OSPCA, the Toronto Humane Society, the City of Toronto Animal Services nor any other organization. EHS operations are overseen by a volunteer board of directors. Everyone involved at EHS is a volunteer, including our board of directors, shelter volunteers, office volunteers and program coordinators. EHS has no paid employees.

Our services are available for cats and dogs. We moved into our rented facility in April 2012, allowing us to offer on-site sheltering and adoption. Off-site fostering is also used to further expand our services for special needs animals.

EHS does not euthanize any animal due to lack of space, taking in only those animals for which we have shelter or foster homes. Euthanasia is considered only in the rare instances when a vet determines that it would be the only humane alternative. Further, we do not allow any animal in our care to be used for research.

We operate a variety of programs that enable us to achieve our mission, relying on the commitment of dedicated volunteers and supporters.
